ABOUT KIBEHO
Kibeho is a remote site in the district of Nyaruguru in the Southern Province of Rwanda. It’s a three-hour drive from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, and just 30 kilometers from Huye City. The Apparitions of the Virgin Mary have made Kibeho a place of prayer and pilgrimage. The very first time the Virgin Mary appeared to Alphonsine Mumureke, a young student in a school now called “Groupe Scolaire Mère du Verbe Kibeho”, it was on November 28th of 1981 in a dining hall. Alphonsine saw a beautiful woman who presented herself as “Nyina Wa Jambo” i.e. “Mother of the Word”. Shortly after, on January 12th of 1982, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Nathalie Mukamazimpaka in the dormitory and on March 2nd, 1982, to Marie Claire Mukangango. Whereas other people reported visions, it’s only these three vision bearers who have been ultimately approved by the Church in 2001 after a major investigation.
Kibeho is a place of prayer for seekers of God who come to ask for the grace of conversion, offering their intentions in reparation for their own sins and the sins of the world, and to promote reconciliation between individuals, communities and nations.
Faith, Conversion and Prayer were the most crucial elements of the Virgin Mary’s messages to these three girls, and through them to the whole world. Kibeho Sanctuary is a Holy Place that comprises significant areas of worship such as the Chapel dedicated to the “Mother of Sorrows”, Chapel of Apparitions, Chapel of Adoration, Way of Cross, Way of Rosary, Water source etc.
